You need to know a couple of things but this thing does work
(Edit 9/7/2020-I WAS able to get it to work on Windows 7. I rebooted my laptop a few times, plugged in the usb end of the cable, turned on the monitor, and on my laptop screen I right-clicked and chose Screen Resolution. From there, I was able to select Extend Monitor. That was it. It worked. So yes, it works on Windows 7 too, at least on my laptop. Read on. At first, I was not sure the device worked. On a Windows 7 laptop, there was a sharing violation so no, it did not work. I have a dvd player on the old laptop and while I did read reviews and I did see references to downloading the installation file, I could not find anything specific as in a link-anywhere. Then again, I read quickly. So I set my old laptop up as a share and installed the drivers from the dvd across my home network to my Windows 10 machine. It installed. I plugged in the device to my new laptop, and the other end into a VGA Samsung monitor. I set up extended monitors. Everything worked. It will take me some time to figure out what and how across the laptop monitor and the extended monitor. I can do it, use both, but for teaching online I am not yet confident to try to have two monitors. The point is the product works (but most likely not on USB 2 and Windows 7 though some reviewers said it would work on USB 2 but with reduced screen resolution). What else? How hard is it to add a small scrap of paper with a web address where the installation file for Windows can be hosted, downloaded? Some folks do not have dvd drives in their laptops. The tiny disk is no good when there is no dvd drive to load it from. Last, it seems to me to be a very cost-effective solution to add an older VGA monitor to a laptop. It works. It makes the connection; the second monitor is there, on, usable. How users use the setup is possible thanks to the cable. This is a great buy!

Perfect
Worked perfectly on my new Win11 PC (and my old VGA monitor). Had to download Elecable driver which was no problem.

Works on Macbook Air (2015)
This cable arrived within two days and came appropriately packaged. I was so excited to get this hooked up since I have been searching for ways to connect two external monitors to my Macbook Air (2015) - considering this laptop has limited ports. One monitor is connect to my mini displayport-to-HDMI cable I bought from an different vendor on Amazon and to connect the other monitor I bought this basic cable USB 3.0 to VGA. It took a few attempts downloading the driver for it to work AND i was kind of nervous downloading a driver supplied through a shared google drive. But it finally worked and I was thrilled! The only thing I can say the quality is a little poor but that is to be expected when using through USB to an analog like VGA. The font on the monitor through this cable is not right - kind of squiggley. Which I don't mind considering I only paid $15 for this cable. I'm in college right now getting my Masters. I love how I can utilize all 3 screens. Thank you so much for this. Highly recommend this adapter! EDIT 10/14/19 Just updated Mac to OS Catalina (10.15). Didn’t work initially but I reinstalled the driver 2 times and now it’s back to working. Woohoo!

Nice
I use this for my Windows laptop. I had bought another version for my Mac. Cable is long enough to connect from desktop to wall. Seems to be durable and the value for money is good.

Occasional Screen Blanking But Does The Job
My setup: Windows 11 (Build 22631.4751) PC: HP All-In-One, 64-bit, 16GB RAM External Monitor: Acer 23" with no USB/HDMI inputs The screen on my PC is severely damaged mandating using an external monitor. The monitor was recently repaired by replacing 2 capacitors in the power supply. Seems to work okay now. Using the cable requires downloading/installing a driver. The provided user manual provides the URL to get the file. You have to complete the install before connecting the cable and powering up the monitor. Follow instructions in the manual. Once the install is completed, the Acer sprang to life with a very brilliant display. Very pleased with what I saw. (see photo). To get the best picture, the cable must be attached to a 3.0 USB port. You can connect to a 2.0 port but (in my case) the display resolution is 800x600. I began to notice occasional screen blanking. Although my PC monitor is damaged I could observe its display did not blank when the Acer did. So blanking is not a computer problem. Then I found a small discussion about blanking in the cable user manual. The suggestion is that a DisplayLink device is interfering with the signal. I searched installed programs and the process list in Task Manager and found no instance of a DisplayLink device. Also, Device Manager indicates the cable driver is the latest. Since my PC monitor is unusable, I'll have to live with the occasional blanking. It doesn't seem to happen often so it's a minor annoyance. Overall, I like the display results. Glad I bought the cable.
