Director Brian De Palma revisits similar terrain that he covered in his 1989 film, 'Casualties of War', in this 'fictional documentary' loosely based on a real-life gang rape and multiple murder perpetrated by US soldiers in Iraq in 2006. Centred around a small army group stationed at a checkpoint in Iraq, the film alternates points of view, balancing the experiences of these inexperienced young men with those of the western media and local Iraqi people. Utilising an array of different filmic styles, from video diaries and surveillance footage, to produced documentaries and news coverage, De Palma forces the viewer to question how 'truth' is reported and asks difficult questions about the brutalising effects of war on all those involved.

Redacted - systematic cover up of American
Well directed by Brian de Palma and more interesting as shown from a non American perspective. The culture of absolving us soldiers from responsibility for horrendous acts against civilians is very disturbing.

A laborious viewing experience
I'm normally very open-minded and like to view films with a realistic sense of their accomplishment. However, 'Redacted' was intensely childish and a frustratingly boring viewing experience. The sudden inclusion of French narration for the first half of the movie was awkward and detracted from the narrative. I lost all empathy with the characters and found myself urging 'something' to happen. Anything. The script is awful. The acting is dreadful. The story is short and lacks suspense or direction. The most though provoking element of the movie was the end where we were shown real photographs of dead civilians that brings home the reality that the real casualties of any war are innocent people. There are so many other movies to watch... I'd suggest avoiding this one. War movies shouldn't send you to sleep!

SINCERELY EYE-OPENING!!
This film (based on a true sequence of events) tells a story that too many people feel comfortable not addressing. It's about the committing of atrocities (and possible cover-up of those atrocities committed) by a group of people meant to bring a halt to the very things that they perpetrate. To say too much about the film itself will be to take away from the essence of the story, however, if you want a true eye-opener about some of the possible unspeakable crimes being committed (that have been ignored to such an extent that most people either think those crimes simply could not have been committed in the first place or have been sanitized by the time the media reports the crimes) this is a film you must see.The title itself is very befitting of the sequence of events.

A retelling of 'Casualties Of War' set in Iraq.
An accurate study of America at war, and the poor quality of its soldiers. Generally well made but the acting is sometimes amateurish.
