"Life is Strange" Issue #5- The second story arc gets off to a enjoyable (albeit slow) start.
It's been months since the final issue of "Dust," the inaugural "Life is Strange" comic storyline. And those first four-issues were something of a pleasant surprise. A sequel we never expected to the iconic video-game of the same name. Fans like me thought we might never see the characters of Max and Chloe ever again, especially as the games continued on with a focus on new characters and new stories. But writer Emma Vieceli took us back to the world of Arcadia Bay in a poignant new narrative, and it was a blast and a half! And now, the story continues with Issue #5, the start of a new four-chapter arc being referred to by the title "Waves."Issue #5 begins two years after the perplexing conclusion of "Dust." Max has settled into a new life in an alternate timeline where both Chloe Price and Rachel Amber are still alive. But things aren't going particularly smooth. Chloe has doubts over she and Rachel's relationship, Max has began to yearn for the Chloe of her own original timeline... and a mysterious young man begins to appear and disappear... a young man only Max seems to be able to see...Issue #5 has a very different feeling and tone compared to what's come before. The bulk of this installment is admittedly fairly slow and plays up on the domestic drama between the characters, with only hints towards the fantastical elements that define the franchise. But that doesn't stop it from being completely and utterly enjoyable. It's a ton of fun to see the dynamic between Max and Rachel, and it's quite fascinating seeing how the Chloe of this universe compares to the original. There's also just enough seeds planted for future chapters to get you hooked, and the promise of another great mystery to solve. As always, Vieceli does a splendid job capturing the voices of the characters, and the art is as good as ever. I really enjoyed just how warm and intimate the issue looks. It serves as a nice contrast to the bulk of "Dust," which often felt very cold and stark. On the whole, I'd highly recommend Issue #5 to fans of the original game and the previous comics. It sets up the new story quite well and lets us catch up again with the characters we love. I give it a very good 4 out of 5.

Fantastic
This series is one of those that just makes your heart ache at times and swell with love at times. You want so much for these characters. Loving where this is going so far. Can't wait to read more.

Better than I expected!
This was a lot better than I anticipated. Never did I think the Amberpricefield fan service could actually work in this issue and it did! It'll be interesting to see where this arc goes next from where this issue ended. It should be great.

Not convinced yet...
Carrying on from the previous arc, Max has found herself in a new timeline, one in which both Chloe and Rachel are alive. One of my major complaints from the first arc was that Max and Chloe were in a romantic relationship and that Rachel was literally called nothing but Chloe's "confidante." In the second arc, Chloe and Rachel are the couple who are in a relationship together, and Max feels like a third wheel, having moved in with them. And she's unhappy that the other two girls are together, feeling left out and lonely. Being a Chloe/Rachel shipper, I can't say I'm happy that they are the established relationship in this timeline, because Max is jealous and acting like it's a bad thing.Anyway...that's just my personal preference and opinion. As far as the non-shippy stuff in this issue goes, I was not that impressed. The girls are living in Santa Monica and barely scraping by. Max is a freelance artist, doing posters for local shops for free coffee and maybe a little pay. Chloe is an auto mechanic and a freelance sculptor. Weird. And Rachel Amber... Well, Rachel Amber is a YouTube makeup tip vlogger. So that's happening... o.OIn this issue, a strange boy keeps showing up in the coffee shop where Max is making advertisements for the owner. To me, he looks like a homeless Warren, but Max doesn't seem to recognize him; she just thinks he looks so sad, she wants to intervene before something bad happens to him. But we don't really learn anything about him at this point. That's far more interesting then the forced relationship drama threatening to break Chloe and Rachel apart. This comic series is really hating on Rachel Amber and, frankly, I don't like it. It seems really biased because even if they try to portray them in a relationship like we saw in the game, they immediately try to break them up and gain sympathy for Max instead.

Just another fanfiction.
Just another fanfiction only not free... Entertaining, yes, but, to me, it certainly doesn't have anything to do with the game, which the end, was a really beautiful display of best friendship. It's the most beautiful form of love, romantic love should have nothing to do with it. And yet, we get a TOTALLY different Rachel Amber (with Chloe) who doesn't strike me as a lesbian in the game and I thought their little crush would be over by now (we're adults, and teen things rarely are serious. I mean, why should Chloe be in a romantic thing with her friends. It's sick. I don't try to date my best friend just to prove she's the most important permon in the world to me); we get a Warren, everything is out of place. Even in the first instalment, poor Max doesn't strike me as the wonderful hero she was in the game (even in Chloe's eyes who keeps pining over Rachel. When I remember the beautiful things she said at the end of the game, I can't believe that this comic spoiled all of it). Why not show us Max and Chloe's wonderful friendship, why try to spoil everything with all these romantic things?!
