Alaska's Dog Heroes: True Stories of Remarkable Canines (PAWS IV)

The book is great, but Amazon's packing choice was terrible. When you put a thin book in a padded envelope it's bound to get bent. So you return it... With details... And they do the same thing again....But the book is full of inspiring, short, dog hero stories, some you may already be familiar with, that will be loved by young and old alike. The illustrations are lovely and fill one page, while the story, (most somewhere between just three to six paragraphs), fills the other.

Great little book that I use with ESL students from grades 3-5. These are true stories about sled dogs and other remarkable dogs that have shown their mettle in the rugged Alaskan frontier. My students read all about the dogs then choose one for further research on the web or other books and sometimes films. It's written appropriately for a mid-elementary reading level and has nice illustrations which help my English learners get a visual of the animals and landscape.

It is an excellent, short book of wonderful true stories of different dogs, different breeds, of Alaska. I have given it to two people and plan to order more and I'd also like one for my personal library. Highly recommend for everyone to read and to be in all school libraries.

Gave this to a young man for Christmas. Sweet book. Gave many details of the story related to the 1925 Diphtheria Serum Run to Nome, Alaska. Nice pictures, good story telling, good detail.
