Tame that Snare Drum Ring!
Ever since Danny Seraphine demoed this head at a clinic I attended, I knew it was exactly what I needed on my 6.5" Copper Free Floating snare. It has never disappointed me. I've experimented with other heads and nothing compares.

Damped but still with a touch of ring off center
I changed from a G1 to this in order to decrease some of the ringing and odd harmonics I was getting using tonal tuning, even with the head really well tuned. It's a fairly dramatic change from the G1, although I don't find this head to be nearly as dull/thuddy as an Evans EC2 which I played next to it.Sound is obviously very subjective, so I don't want to try to say better or worse than. I think this might be a bit dull to cut through some bands, but unlike the EC2, you can still get some decent brightness/ring by hitting off center. Still, it is much more controlled than an un-damped single ply head.If you are looking for a low ring head that has more variation than the EC2 or similar 2 ply, this could be a good choice. If you are using a G1 or other very brilliant open head, and want to tone the odd harmonics down while keeping that bright open quality, then I'd try the Studio X coated. This one is probably a bit too damped.Last comment is that the construction quality is super impressive. The rim is more solid and seems to be a higher quality than the other two brands I've tried and it tuned up beautifully.

My current favorite head for my type of low volume music (60's country and rock'n'roll)
My new favorite head for the snare drum, one a Ludwig Breakbeats, the other a Gretsch Catalina Jazz. This head gives the fattest, most focused tone of the Evans, and Remos that came before.I do not need ANY Moon Gel or Deadringers with this head. Not too bright, not too dull.Wide, wide tuning range, despite the looser tunings having more of a ringing sustain. And as said before, even with the ring cranked out, you get a little if you play off-center, and that's a good thing.UPDATE: Just found out that this head is NOT the BEST for swishing brushes. It's fine for doing train beats, but if you are playing jazz or using swishing movements, the head sounds very odd, to my ears anyway. A thinner head is obviously better for that type of drumming. So, if you are a jazz player, or the drummer for Chris Isaak, you might not want this one. Fortunately for me, I use a Yamaha 10" side snare, and it's fine for swishing.

Awesome as usual!!!!
The ONLY head that should ever be used on a snare drum!! I have more drummers switching to Aquarian heads because of the sound of my kits. I use Aquarian exclusively and will never go back to any other company. No need to. This head allows the perfect amount of resonance and provides a great full sound. Very warm is used on toms BUT ... I wouldn't recommend this one on toms smaller than 12" because it will make those sound too dry. It's a single ply head with the excellent Aquarian coating that is more durable than anything else out there. I've tried them all. After 35+ years of playing percussion and many many kits, Aquarian is the ONLY heads that are on all of my kits.

After I cleaned her up put on a Hazy bottom and Coated Focus X she sounded like a $400 snare (I have several)
My first Focus X. Put the head on a no brand $20 snare as it was a friends passed Dad that played. This was a dog (crap) 6 lug, a drum that may have come with an off brand import set. The old Ambassadors must have been changed in 30 years. After I cleaned her up put on a Hazy bottom and Coated Focus X she sounded like a $400 snare (I have several). Buy one and see the difference-- dry enough for Jazz and wet enough for rock covers. I would even recommend for concert snare work.

Great Sound & Great Value!
I have been playing all Aquarian heads for a few months now including this one. I play a Gretsch Catalina Bop. This head sounds great and is easy to tune. The sound is fat and warm and excellent tuned low or high. I used to geat a lot of overtones (aka: ringing) and this head eliminates that without destroying the natural resonance of the drum.I have played just about every type of Remo and Evans out there and I have to say the Aquarians are now my absolute favorite. I highly recommend this head!

great for the price, but be sure you seat them properly
goid sound, great control.. did have one break mid gig after only 4 uses, but I blame myself as it wasn't seated properly, and the UPSIDE, even with a bisted head (separated in the lower right by the edge) I was able to complete the set with only slight reduction in sound.

FocusX on a problem snare works!
I have an old Tama Rockstar kit 14 by 5 snare that has always sounded snarky but this head teamed with a HPSN14 High Performance snare side head fixed it up right!. I tuned it all the way up to C and now have just the right ring and carry without a ton of Moongel or damping rings. What a difference.
