Very pleased
To qualify this review a bit, I'm no professional drummer and my drum set is a semi-cheapo set from Pearl. I'm also a decent drummer, have a good ear for tuning the drums, and when it comes to music, am probably best classified as a jack-of-all-trades and a master of none (same for my keyboard, bass, and guitar skills). The drum heads these replaced came with my Pearl drum set, which were decently old, so I'm not sure I can give a really high-caliber assessment of these. And trying to describe drum sounds isn't the easiest thing to do in the first place.BUT, what the heck, eh? I have 4 toms that I've replaced with Aquarian drum heads, and I have to say my initial impression is they're a little darker and not quite as "ringy" as the Pearl drums heads that were on the set. But they DO sound extremely nice. Maybe I'm better at tuning than I used to be, but they definitely sound higher quality than previous set (which they likely are), and a bit more "harmonious" when all played together. They also seem to be more optimal at a lower pitch. Could just be the lack of higher-freq overtones, but that's my impression anyway. So, good set, no complaints and they sound pretty good on my drum set. Don't know if that helped, but hopefully this is better than the zero reviews that existed before this. Cheers!

Studio X
After trying a number of differnt drum heads on my dw collector's seires, I decided to try single ply heads noticing that this is what comes with dw, Remo single ply. The stock heads sounded Ok, but the Studio X's turned a set of drums into a melodic instrument. I have an instrument here that sounds incredible. Other musicians and people in clubs comment constantly on the sound of my dw's. I have tried Evans G2, Remo Ambassoador coated, pinstripes were not too bad but the X's blew them away. I was worried about durabilty but they are very durable for one ply heads. Try them, you will notice right away the difference. Save yourself some money and get these heads.

Fantastic for the Snare drum
Fantastic for the Snare drum. With an additional studio ring overlay, this head instantly gave my snare a deep fat 70's sound, with no ring, yet the head is tight and snappy. Just what I was looking for. The coated heads tend to sand my nylon stick tips down to nubs in about 5 hours of play. This head is not abrasive like the coated ones. I'm hoping that problem will be cured as well.

Great Great Heads
Got this head and two other studio-X for my kit and they are great! Even the guys I play with said they could tell a big difference. Sound great on the classic rock that we cover, Will more than likely stick with Studio-X or another Aquarian style.

I do not like the fact that they are only 1 ply because ...
I swapped from evens g2 coated to these, and they really make my drums sing. I do not like the fact that they are only 1 ply because I have already put a few dents in them. Overall, they sound and look great, but I will opt for a 2 ply version when these wear out.
