Korg - volca Modular - Analogue Performance Mixer

Bought this in tandem with the Volca Sampler. I do a lot of field recording and will use both devices to play with sounds. I'm not really a musician, play a little guitar. Both devices are great for experimentation in sound design. There's a small learning curve but lots of videos on youtube demonstrating how to get started. I think in the right hands and with a musical ear, you can really pull the potential from this little thing. A bonus is that the power supply I bought from an amazon external seller works for both devices. I also have the Korg NTS-1 which can run off usb power- that might have been a nice option for portability for this device as 6AAs is a little bit of an inconvenience. Overall there's nothing else in the price range that comes close.

This can be a frustrating little box if you don't know what you're doing. Don't get me wrong, fun can be had straight out of the box, as you don't need to use the micro patch cables to produce sound (as you would with a traditional modular synth.) However, learning about the multifarious complexities of the Volca - and how to patch it - is a rewarding business that may result in an expensive modular synth addition. Beware.

今はどうか分からないが、この機種が発売された前後、観葉植物やおしゃれな小物を機材の周囲に配置した環境音楽の動画が流行ったことがあった。最近のハードも所謂'動画映え' を意識した機体デザインが増えたと感じる。KORG のマーケティングは素晴らしいが(場違いなことを言えば)、人間の奥底を音楽的に描くには古典的手法が相応しいと感じる昨今である。

Questo strumento non è un giocattolo e si possono creare una vastità di suoni molto interessanti , io ci faccio basi musicali ed il suono registrato è vivo e reale , lo preferisco a qualsiasi vst software .Secondo me usare sinth reali da una marcia in più quando si vuole produrre musica che abbia un sound professionale. Comprerò sicuramente altri volca , al momento ho preso anche il volca beats.

I'm starting to collect these things like special edition Lego sets. It's really fun to experiment with sounds. And create your own unique sounds you can capture to another device turn it into an instrument.

Mein erster semi-modularer Synth. Habe bereits mit anderen Synts rumgeschraubt, daher kannte ich mich mit den Begriffen wie VCO, LFO, VCA, Filter etc. aus. Dieser hier ist anders als die klassische Substraktive Synthese. Es handelt sich hier um additive Synthese (west coast synth). Man kommt aber schnell klar, wenn man sich ein paar youtube videos anschaut. Es macht richtig Spaß mit dem kleinen Teil zu experimentieren. Auch wenn man denkt, man hätte alles wesentliche gesehen, gibt es immer noch Überraschungen, bzw. neue Ideen auf youtube, die man nachbauen kann. Man kann auch sein eigenes Breadboard nehmen, wenn einem die Split Funktion nicht ausreicht und so ein Signal auf z.B. mehr als Ausgänge erweitern, oder eigene Regler anschließen. Ich bin echt begeistert von dem Teil! Zum Rumspielen und Soundkreieren einfach super geeignet. Ob man am Ende mit den Sounds was anfangen kann sei dahingestellt, aber ich finde es einen guten Einstieg in modulare Synthesizer!

I'm not so happy to have bought this little synth. It is not as versatile as I thought it might be and I wish I had gone in other directions especially with it's lack of MIDI support. For a modular based unit it is almost a good beginners device but there are better options out there for that. I think it is more of a gimmick than an instrument.
