Sturdy and works!
It works. I was skeptical at first since this was mostly plastic. When I leave my RV for extended periods, I set traps for critters while I'm away. I recently returned from travels to my RV. From my most recent travel, I heard a rustling, and then I heard something scurrying inside one of the cabinets. I had forgotten that I had set a trap earlier inside the cabinet. Before opening the cabinet, I set up extra traps outside and grabbed a broom in case the critter jumped out and ran inside the RV. When I slowly opened the cabinet, it became apparent that the trap had caught the tail of the critter. It was hanging over the back side of the cabinet and into the cabinet cavity. I decided to wait until later in the day to see if the poison bait I had set would take effect, and also to see if the critter would tire itself out. I came back later in the day, and the critter disappeared further into the cabinet cavity. I removed the cabinet, and in the cavity, the trap was still there, with the critter still attached to it. The trap was large enough that the critter couldn't escape back further into the cabinets. I was then able to remove the critter and dispose of it.

DEAD RATS!!!
I was not hopeful...but I was wrong! Our small shed/chicken coop and 40'x40' run had become over run with rats. And why not...they are being fed and keep warm. A few years ago, we had rat snakes that would come in the summer and take care of any problem. For some reason, they are no longer coming so the rats are out of control. Rat poison was not an option. So we tried these traps and within 18 hours and 4 traps set....3 rats were caught dead. --- I was worried about they would be caught, but not dead. Nope, they are dead!! And b/c there is no poison I can put the dead rats on the edge of the woods for the vultures and scavengers.I put the traps in empty dog crates to keep the ducks and chickens safe. Also I read where rats would move the traps, so the dog crate is perfect. I forgot to take a photo, sorry. All 4 rats were dead, even one who got it more on the bridge of the face.Tip: remove all animal feed or bird seed so the rats are hungry. We are fortunate in that we can open our gate to the front yard and let the chickens eat out there.CAUTION!!! Be very mindful when you are re-baiting the traps. One was empty of bait so I thought 'oh, I will just take a little from the other trap'....THANK GOD I thought about what I was about to do....which was reach my finger in an already set trap to remove bait!!!!! I know DUH, Right! Now, you can do that from the bottom easily. JUST be mindful of what you are doing!! I do think this trap could break a finger. With that said....this is a very easy trap to fill and set. Then remove the dead rat, clean and reset. I am very excited to think we might have a solution to our rat problem. It's definitely, a better Rat Trap!!!!!UPDATE: 48 hours and 10 rats caught. 9 dead but 1 rat was not dead in the trap. This is not for the faint of heart. My husband could not deal with this. I deal with all death on our tiny farm. I do not let animals suffer a slow death. So I would not let him suffer in the trap until he finally died and there was no letting him go to suffer his wounds.

Product did not work to catch rodents
Why did you pick this product vs others?:I bought these traps because they looked like they were easy to use and also easy to clean.Traps simply did not catch rodent. Traps would either not spring at all or would spring and not catch anything. I found numerous times that bait would be gone and trap did not spring. Found numerous times that the trap would be sprung but did not catch anything. I used peanut butter as bait and placed bait in bait cup so it was not a case of bait coming off easily. Found plenty of evidence of rodent droppings around showing rodents had been near traps. It is true that these traps were more safe to use, easy to use and easy to clean, however, they did not serve the purpose of catching rodents.

Well designed but not powerful enough for some rats
I have been using these traps for about a year. I live in Tucson, Arizona and pack rats are my primary problem. These traps are easy to set. The removable bait container works very well. They are also easy to clean. Setting the trap is simple and much better than traditional rat traps. The trap was recommended by a professional rat exterminator. My only problem is that the trap is not powerful enough to always kill pack rats. Several times the trap caught a rat but did not kill it. The trap caught the rat properly -- jaws on the head/neck. But the rats survived. In one case the rat ran away after I released the jaws. I have had rats live for hours or days in the trap.I will continue to use these traps because of their other benefits. But I wish they had a more powerful spring.

These looked great but mixed results
Roof rats infested my kitchen. I bought 12 of these. The jaws looked powerful. Advertised to work with rats which are a little bigger than mice. Advertised as powerful kills. After a couple of weeks, only 2 rats killed. THREE OTHERS SURVIVED! They were screeching --in two cases, their heads were caught somehow but it wasn't fatal; the third one was caught in the tail. The failed kills taught the other rats to avoid the traps located nearby. Also, even though these traps are advertised as reusable, the ones that caught rats didn't work afterwards--the bait was eaten and when I tried to set it off, it didn't.

These work - but they
Glove up before handling the traps. Use attractive bait. Strategically place traps. Rebait and reposition traps as needed. And they will kill small to large rats with swift finality, and easy release of dead rodent.Much easier to use these style traps (vs the old fashioned wood Victor style traps that are scary to set). The bait cup on the bottom is easy to take out, clean out and refill, and reinsert.Setting the trap can be done with foot or a strong hand.Disposal of caught rodent is easy due to large piece to handle that's away from dead rodent, and then slight squeeze on the not-the-snap side to release the dead rodent from the trap.Highly recommend!
