The processor features two cores running at 2.9 GHz each--enough processing power to run several intensive applications at once without slowdown. You'll be able to multitask more effectively, accomplishing more in less time. The processor also has a versatile AM2+/AM3 socket and is compatible with a wide range of motherboards.AMD Athlon II X2 245 Dual-Core Desktop ProcessorAt a Glance:Two 2.9 GHz cores for quick and efficient processingDedicated L1 and L2 cache allows for heavy multitaskingFast, ultra-wide bandwidth for quick memory accessDesigned to handle next-gen gamesQuiet, cool, and energy efficientAMD Athlon II X2 245 Dual-Core Desktop ProcessorTwo 2.9 GHz cores for quick andefficient processing.Fast, ultra-wide bandwidth for quick memory access.Four Powerful Processing CoresWith the Athlon II X2 series, AMD engineers have combined two cores into a single processor, giving you enough processing muscle for all the latest software. Each core is also equipped with dedicated L1 and L2 cache that streamlines memory access and helps reduce latency. For users, this means that you'll be able to run all the latest software without the slowdown you'd experience with an inferior processor. Your computer will be able to handle multiple programs, allowing you to multitask more efficiently. And you'll be able to enjoy next-gen media and games without any frame-rate hiccups.Cutting-Edge Technologies for Faster ProcessingThe Athlon II X2 also makes use of several other performance-boosting technologies, including:HyperTransport Bandwidth: Speeds up communication between the processor and memory, supporting transfer speeds of up to 4.4 GT/s.Integrated Memory Controller: Actively scales bandwidth uses to match your computing needs, dramatically reducing slowdown.128-bit Floating-Point Unit (FPU): Allows processor to execute floating-point calculations with extreme speed.Gaming without SlowdownPC gaming continues to improve at a breakneck rate, with graphics, physics, and AI growing more realistic each year. But you'll need more than just a good graphics card to keep up with the latest games. For certain games that are heavily threaded, a slow CPU can quickly become a bottleneck for performance and can ruin your gaming experience.Fortunately, the Athlon II series has been specifically designed to handle CPU-intensive games. With its multiple cores, the processor can manage thousands of high-speed gaming calculations at once. The result is a smooth, immersive gaming experience, free of any stuttering or latency. The Ultimate in Energy Efficiency and CoolingAMD products are known for their stellar energy efficiency and the Athlon II X2 245 is no exception. The processor features AMD's proprietary PowerNow and CoolCare technology, which allow the processor to smartly regulate its own energy consumption. Having an energy-efficient computer doesn't just help keep costs down; it also generates less heat and helps your computer to run more quietly. It will even prolong your processor's life cycle, so you can enjoy it for years without having to worry about degradation. The AMD Athlon II X2 245 Dual-Core Desktop Processor is backed by a three-year warranty. What's in the BoxAthlon II X2 245 Dual-Core Desktop Processor and user manualAthlon II Processor Family Processor FrequencyNumber of Processing CoresL3 Cache SizeTDPHyperTransport SpeedClock Multiplier SocketAMD Athlon II X4 6352.9 GHz44x 512 KB95 W2 GHzYesAM3AMD Athlon II X4 6302.8 Ghz44x 512 KB95 W2 GHzYesAM3AMD Athlon II X2 2503.0 GHz22x 1 MB65 W2 GHzNoAM3AMD Athlon II X2 2452.9 GHz22x 1 MB65 W2 GHzNoAM3

AMD Athlon II X2 245
This is a great processor for anyone looking to build a moderately fast PC on a tight budget. at 2.9 GHz and only 2mb of L2 cache, it is not blazing fast but it will allow you to multitask with no problem while using everyday programs such as Microsoft Office. It is also powerful enough to run new games at moderately high settings but a high-end graphics card is obviously required for this. Bottomline, it is great choice for anyone looking for a reliable, fairly fast processor at a low cost.

Package came in with no breaking and it was very secure in two boxes and a wrapping of aluminum and bubble wrap adds to the protection. The processor is another story because i cant test it out, but the presentation of the cute little box you get is quite a little experience. Plus: a free small pouch of thermal paste!

Perfect for HTPC
Its more than enough CPU to handle my original intention for it. I'm using it as the brains behind my (fairly) new HTPC and it performs admirably. Currently I have XBMC running on top of Windows 7 x64. Its able to handle play back of 1080p video, including Blueray, and 5.1 audio without any hiccups, stutters, and it stays at a very comfortable 40c (+/- 1 or 2 degrees) even after hours of use. I coupled it with a Gigabyte GA-MA785GM, 4GB of DDR2800, and an 80GB 7200RPM drive. I stream all of the media over the ethernet port as well. All in all the processor exceeded my expectations and is an excellent bargain.

I think is the best AMD Processor Ever!!
Hi!I didnt bought a Quad Core One because I am 80% of the time needing adual core one that satisfies my software needs and It had a good pricewhen I bought it.Anyway, it run amazing!!It has superior perfomance witohut overclock thanIntel comparable models and operate only a 43°C on load. This processor has always5 stars on aprox 250 reviews on Newegg!!. Absolutely truth!Fully recommended!!

Bumped up from a Sempron. Mainly due to running plex on the pc. For the low cost, it is a marked improvement.

Great price. Excellent performance for entertainment,
I bought this CPU when my Quadcore CPU died on my home entertainment PC. This is very effective for that purpose, I overclocked it and it was even better. Great replacement, low energy consuming and affordable CPU.

Great for HTPC
No problems watching 720p HD video on my HTPC. Haven't purchased a bluray drive yet but I don't think there will be any problems.

Great Cpu, good for overclocking
Really solid processor, nice thing about these older AMD models is that they are all overclockable, that I did not realize at first. I built my Frankenstein desktop from leftover parts from other builds for friends and family, with this CPU in the junk pile. while I was googling stuff I came across a thread describing how to overclock old AMD's. With these, and a mobo that supports overclocking you can really squeeze a lot of performance out of it. You can't change the frequency multiplier like modern overclockable cpu's, but you can jack up the base clock through the roof, till you find the limit at which it will not boot. I found that with my Asus m2n69-am plus mobo, and a big $20 cooler I was able to get 3.37 ghtz on stock voltage, with base clock @232 & stock max multiplier of 14.5 and incredibly stable. Also temps are really good for an OC, it stays way under *50C under normal conditions, and when I load it to 100% it is still only at 55C after 15 mins. It would not take any more voltage than stock. and not a tick more in speed, It simply will not boot if it's not happy. But I am very satisfied with 3.37 ghtz from a processor this old. It runs circles around my i5 laptop, which I just bought last summer.
