Every child loves this hardcover version of The Hobbit. It has the best illustrations of any version.

This is a beautiful edition!! The pages are a little glossy, very thick. Lots of illustrations that enhance my enjoyment of the book. Of course, the book itself is wonderful. This book takes place before the action of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. All four books are fantastic! Highly entertaining for all ages.

My son is level 1 autistic (some describe it as high functioning) and was having trouble when any part of his life was not exactly as he wanted it. I figured it might be a long-shot, but this book is all about personal growth through a series of uncomfortable circumstances combined with imagination, so my hope was my son would want to take on some characteristics of Bilbo (the main character). I was concerned the writing might be hard for him to understand since he is only 8. I read it to him before bed each night for a bit over a month. At first it was hard for him to understand the writing style, but by the end, he was looking over my shoulder to read along and stopping me to ask questions. I think the illustrations were helpful to keep his interest in the beginning. He loved it and I think the message has stuck with him. Maybe he’s just growing generally, but after reading the book, he seems more flexible.

I told my son the stories at both verbally, then searched and found this to try. He has loved it and sits for 20-30 pages at a time. We are finishing it now, and I hope she illustrates the trilogy so we can keep it going!

Great read for kids of all ages, mainly because it gets them to sleep and the next day they ask what happened after they crashed.
