Very Beast Of Dio

A great compilation of Dio's material
The Very Beast of Dio is simply a must-have compilation for all Dio fans in that it contains material from all of his earlier albums ranging from 1983's Holy Diver to 1994's Strange Highways. This compilation has a very good selection of songs including the brilliant Holy Diver with its tense and exciting keyboard intro followed by excellent riffs. I bought this particular compilation as an accompaniment to the follow-up compilation The Very Beast of Dio Volume 2, and because it contains a track I didn't yet have at the time, Strange Highways. There are other classic songs as well, such as Rainbow in the Dark, The Last in Line, Dream Evil and the 8-and-a-half minute piece Lock Up the Wolves.Overall, The Very Beast of Dio is a very good compilation to start off with if you're new to Dio. Apart from this compilation, I would also strongly recommend the 1992 compilation Diamonds: The Best of Dio as that one has a song he and his band did titled Hide in the Rainbow which was used as a soundtrack for the 1986 film Iron Eagle. Very highly recommended.

Best Dio compilation I've ever bought.
Delivered just three days after I ordered it. Not bad.It contains a booklet outlining the band's story up to 2000, with photos of some band members. As for the music, if you are thirty five or under and looking to get into 80s metal, then this is a good place to start. If, like me you were a a teenager during this era, the only recommendation I can give you is to look at the track list. It's way better than any other Dio compilation, with ALL the essential songs, in their studio album form and no silly messing with live versions. The live reworked version of Man on the Silver Mountain is a bit iffy, but the other fifteen tracks are what I bought it for anyway. For me, this is the soundtrack to the 80s heavy metal genre.Excellent purchase.
