Good guitar at the second attempt
The first of these that I ordered was a diappointment - the neck had very significant negative relief, to the extent that there was a noticeable angle at the join with the body and this gave severe string buzz and seemed unlikely to adjust properly; the top had several small dints around the sound hole; the binding at the rear of the bottom had split and the case had a small dent in it. It sounded nice but didn't really seem to have been set up or finished properly, which the use of the term 'luthier guitar' suggested it should have been. As the instrument comes in a lightweight hard case, it seems unlikely that these issues occurred in transit, so I can only assume that they were present when packed at the factory or that warehouse storage was poor. Amazon returns were, as ever, pretty painless and, as the guitar had fallen in price in the interim, I wasn't too upset. The second guitar was much better. The neck still had negative relief with the consequent buzzing strings but was far less extreme than the previous instrument. I was able to adjust the truss rod and it's now as it should be. Although I'm a very basic guitarist, the sound is again good and I'm pleased with that, too. The case is undamaged and is a proper lightweight hard case, though the supports for the compartment inside are not secured so will need gluing at some stage. 4* as, again, I've had to set the guitar up myself, which seems a bit strange for a luthier guitar, and also because there is some very minor damage to the metal of the tailpiece - I suspect that this happened in the factory and should, again, have been picked up by a trained luthier (if I can see it, and expert should be able to spot it). Again, Amazon were very helpful and accommodating.Overall, very pleased and a nice guitar - but I'm unsure that it merits the 'luthier' tag.
