This kit is pretty good. The seeds grew quickly and are doing well. It's tough watering them and you have to water every couple of days once they get bigger. Definitely a great gift for a plant lover.

I loved the original Urban Leaf kit. I had fresh basil all winter long. When I found I could save a few dollars and simply replace the innards, I thought "great!" But it wasn't. The replacements come in two pieces and you have to be very careful which you put on top and which on the bottom, otherwise you will have trouble sprouting your seeds (I think this was the problem with one of my bottles.) You also have to be very careful to make sure the two pieces are smashed together or the roots won't grow into the second half of the replacement sponge (and if the water level goes below the first, the roots will have trouble drawing water (I think this was the problem with another of my bottles, as I got a wonderful plant that then withered and died when I forgot to top off the water.) On the whole, I had more luck with the original Urban Leaf kit than with the replacements (using the same seed, which I had leftover from the original planting.)
